Our NHS Pharmacy Contraception Service gives you FREE access to expert advice all about contraception and supplies of your prescription contraceptive pill, all in a safe and welcoming environment.
Who Can Use This Service?
If you’re looking to start, change or continue the contraceptive pill, are under 54yrs and are planning on using the pill for contraceptive purposes, you can count on us to help you.
This service is especially helpful if getting to your GP is tricky, or if you just want a quicker and more convenient way to get your prescription. You do not need to use our pharmacy for other medication, this service is for everyone.
New Supply vs. Ongoing Supply Appointments
- **New Supply Appointment**:
If it’s your first time using oral contraception, you’re switching from a different method or would like to try a different contraceptive pill, we’ll need to have a more in-depth chat about your medical history, the best options for you, and any possible side effects. - **Ongoing Supply Appointment**:
If you’ve already been prescribed oral contraception and just need a repeat supply, we can sort that out after a short check-in to make sure everything’s still working well for you.
What to Expect from Your Appointment
When you visit Monkbar Pharmacy for a contraception appointment, here’s what you can expect:
- You will be asked to complete a short screening questionnaire about your medical history to help our pharmacists know where to focus on when they chat to you.
- A member of our brilliant team will take your blood pressure and measurements to help to calculate your BMI for all patients booking for a “New Supply” appointment or those needing a repeat supply of certain contraceptive pills. (This will be easier if you come prepared and are wearing a t shirt under any warmer clothing).
- You’re then all set for a private and friendly consultation with a clinical pharmacist who will help you to make a decision about the supply or resupply of a contraceptive pill.
- There will be plenty of opportunity to discuss any concerns or questions you may have. We do ask that you take a look through the Contraceptive Choices website before your appointment to help you to get the best from your time with our expert.
- You will leave with up to a year’s supply of the oral contraception, if appropriate, or guidance on the next steps if another method is more suitable. Whichever the outcome, we aim for you to leave feeling empowered and armed with the information that you need to make the best contraceptive choices for YOU.
